COTUZ-TURNS DOWN OFFER TO MERGE LABOUR CENTERS




THE Confederation of Trade unions of Zambia has turned down the offer by the labour institute of Zambia to join the process of merging the country's Labour centers into one formidable union.

Union president Joe Kamutumwa has revealed they want to pursue different ideologies towards the enhancement of the rights of workers.

Last week the Zambia congress of trade unions and federation of free trade unions of Zambia signed a memorandum of understanding binding the two intuitions realize the merging process.

But Mr. Kamutumwa has questioned the involvement of labour and social security minister Fackson Shamenada in the merger when the process should be spearheaded by the workers themselves.

And Mr. Kamutumwa is not moved by the statement from Mr. Shamenada suggesting that it is illogical to be a prudent a Labour movement without many affiliates.

Mr. Kamutumwa explained that the labour center is only a year old hence it is still embellishing its self adding that numbers do not add up to the viability of an institution but “it is the ability to effectively address the plight of workers” he said.
